Child Case Study 4H
Autism, Sensory Issues, Speech Delay.
“She has become calmer. If previously we were to tell her ‘no’, she would go into longer periods of crying and shouting. Now, she is able to calm down faster and she accepts it that she cannot have certain item. Words-wise has increased - she is able to tell us in short words what she wants.
In the past, she would just bring us to what she wanted. There were no words spoken then. Tendency to spin around and tiptoe has reduced. Her appetite has improved as well. Previously, she might be a bit more groggy. Now, I find that she is happier."

Interview Transcript
Sleep quality/Energy level
Wakes up feeling happier than before
Consultant: Once the Sleep Therapy kicks in, was there any difference in terms of her Sleep Quality?
Mother: I would say she has always been able to sleep through the night. There are only certain nights when she would wake up. She will be awakened, and then she would feel hungry. She would ask for milk. Even after using the Healing Mat, it is still about the same. She still sleeps through the night. I don’t have her waking me up in the middle of the night.
Consultant: When she wakes up in the morning, does she feel refreshed? More refreshed or is it the same?
Mother: Yes, yes, she does. Of course, morning now, she is going to school, she has to wake up much earlier. But on the days she does not have school, she manages to wake up by herself, she is happier. Previously, she might be a bit more groggy. Now, I find that she is happier.
Consultant: If you can, let her catch up on her sleep debt.
Mother: Sure.
Dietary habits
Comfortable eating more, improved appetite
Consultant: what has her dietary habits changed?
Mother: Previously, she did not eat as much as I would like. Very little, actually. Now she is comfortable eating more, I would say, like what a four year-old should be eating. She tries more of the home-cooked food. As long as it is not very spicy, she is able to eat more variety of food.
Consultant: Her appetite has improved?
Mother: Yes, her appetite has improved as well.
Consultant: How about her reception to new fruits and vegetables?
Mother: As far as vegetables are concerned, as long as it comes with the rice, and I mix it up and I feed her, she is okay with it. But fruits, whenever we offer her banana, or even pear or apple, she is not receptive to it. Of course, we need to work on that. We probably try to get more brightly-coloured fruits for her to try. Let her pick and choose what she wants to eat.
Consultant: Yes, the appeal must be there. Once they like the look of it, they will try it. That’s when the body will receive the right glucose that she needs.
Craving for milk
Consultant: Why do you feel the need to give her milk?
Mother: I don’t want to give her milk. She asks us for milk. You see, like even now - she comes she says “I want milk”. Then I told her “now it’s not milk time. So morning she wakes up, she wants milk. If you tell her there is no milk, she doesn’t want to take anything else. Night-time, after dinner, she wants milk. It is not a fact that I want to give her milk. You see, my son weans off milk. Even when I asked him, “you are very skinny. Why don’t you take chocolate milk. He said,”Ah Ma, I don’t like milk.” So okay, don’t take milk. I am okay with it. Jennifer wants to drink milk, it’s not like that I want to give her milk.
Consultant: Is she receptive to soy-based milk? Almond milk? Coconut milk?
Mother: When we cook coconut soup, something like coconut based, the lemak type. We give it to her with rice and tofu, she is able to eat it. Even for us as a family, we do not take coconut milk just like that.
Consultant: You may want to try out. When you buy a coconut whole, you finish drinking the water. There is some flesh. You can dig it out and blend it. It tastes so awesome with (raw) honey. So it has the milky feeling. Most of these children are used to this milky feeling (that milk offers) - the thick solution. It is a way of their texture (tastebud) being satisfied. You can try that. If she is getting enough nutrients, don’t have to worry. If she wants an alternative, you can try millet. Millet milk tastes quite similar to the milk she is having - texture-wise. That will be one way to wean her off gradually. The dairy is not doing her good as well - for the itching of her skin.
Toilet habits
More able to hold in her bowels and urine now
Consultant: Toilet training-wise?
Mother: Toilet training-wise, I would say I haven’t really started on getting her to sit on the potty yet. I would actually like to start on it.
Consultant: Yes, that would grow her confidence.
Mother: Correct. As I said earlier, for after dinner, she is able to hold in her bowels. Only after we go to the toilet, she releases her bowels.
Consultant: Just now when you mentioned it is in the night time, that part was the big business?
Mother: Not the big business. Her urine ( I mean). She still hasn’t done her big business in the toilet yet. It is normally in her diapers. But night time, she doesn’t go. It is normally during the day time that she does the big stuff. Normally at night, it’s just the urine. Only when she goes to the toilet to brush her teeth, then she would actually release her urine.
Consultant: That means to say night time, you don’t put her on diapers?
Mother: She still goes on diapers. But when I bring her (to toilet), I notice that her diapers are dry.
Temperament
Calmer, able to accept the answer ‘no’
Consultant: Shortly after her use of the Sleep Therapy, you noticed there is a change in her temperament?
Mother: Yes, she has become a bit more calmer. For example, if previously we were to tell her ‘no’ she could not have something, we deny her something, she would go into longer periods of crying and shouting. So now, she is able to calm down faster then she accepts it ok, that she can not have certain item. It has become much shorter.
Behaviour
Less spinning, less tiptoeing, walking normally now
Consultant: Tendency to spin around? Stimming issues? Is there any change?
Mother: It has reduced. She doesn’t spin around. Very rarely, I would say.
Consultant: Her tiptoeing?
Mother: Her tiptoeing is still there. But we can at the same time, we can also see her walking normally. Previously, it was more on the tiptoeing - three quarter of the time. Now, I would say maybe on a half-half. Her tiptoeing hasn’t totally stopped. Still there, probably half of each.
Consultant: Her sensory processing - what do you mean by that?
Mother: As in like the need to scratch (her base of her foot).
Consultant: That was because of her itchy feeling.
Mother: Other than that, maybe her sensitivity to certain sounds. She is not comfortable with certain sounds - she still has that issue.
Consultant: For example, what sound?
Mother: For example, earlier you might have seen. She didn’t like that music. Or maybe she is watching a particular APP. The APP has a certain sound that she doesn’t like. She will switch off the sound in the tablet. Once the sound passes, she will switch back on the sound. That is what I mean by she has that sensory issue of sounds - she is sensitive to certain kinds of sounds, and certain music.
Consultant: That again could be addressed. When we have certain songs that come with this book or this storyline. The character speaks up for herself like “I don’t like this song” because of certain reasons. These are ways that can help her to express when the situation is not in her favour. With her heightened level of her hearing, her visual, she is able to detect what is comfortable to her. But she should be able to speak up when she is not comfortable.
*Sensory processing disorder is a condition in which the brain has trouble receiving and responding to information that comes in through the senses.
Communication
Can read facial expression well - Empathy factor to be worked on
Consultant: Communication skills-wise? In the past, you mentioned she did not say anything? And she just gave you body language? Is there any change in terms of her body language lately? Was she able to see your body language?
Mother: Yes, only body language. Yes, actually she knows that if we are angry, she knows that we are angry. She is able to see our facial expression. And also the way we modulate our voice. If we were to probably increase our voice (volume), she knows that we are angry, then she will come near us, she will try to smile, make us happy, so that we will not scold her. Or let’s say if we are scolding her brother, then she will come, she will try to like smile - ‘don’t scold him’. It is her way of trying to divert us from actually being angry.
Consultant: That is very smart of her. These days, does she console you in words?
Mother: Consoling? Ok of course, it is not as much. Of course, let’s say if I am sad. And she is looking at me. She would try to make me happy. But let’s say for example, if I was to cry. She does not have the capability to (express) like “ok mummy is crying”. She doesn’t know that. She will of course feel something. You can see her facial expression will change. If we were to compare - I can see that she does not have the empathy factor, as much as what the brother would actually have.
Consultant: This is where I told you - you have to address it by introducing the right living books that can give her this skills set of responding. In order to console someone, you need to use the right words. Certain storyline may help her feel for this character. Therefore, she will express it when the time calls for it.
Verbal expression
More words now, able to speak now
Consultant: Use of vocabulary? Words-wise?
Mother: Words-wise has increased. She is able to tell her, at least in short words what she wants - that she wants food or she wants to take a shower, she wants to go to school . She is able to at least tell that one word, one-two words together to actually express what she wants.
Consultant: In the past, how did she relate?
Mother: In the past, she would just bring us to what she wanted. There were no words spoken. She would just bring us. If she wanted milk, she would bring us to the kitchen, or she wanted food. If she wanted to go to the toilet, or she wanted take a shower, she would bring us to the toilet.
Detoxification
Detox - Heat Pimple on Chin Area - Rashes on her Feet
Consultant: Shortly after the use of Sleep Therapy?
Mother: She had a heat pimple, rash. But that was the only time I saw the rash. After it went off, she has not had any heat breakout.
Consultant: Her itches for her feet?
Mother: It has been there all the time, even before the Healing Mat. We thought probably it is another reaction - it is a way of her stimming (regular scratching). Sometimes, she wants brushes (to brush her feet to relieve the itch).
* The word “stimming” refers to self-stimulating behaviors, usually involving repetitive movements or sounds. Everybody stims in some way. It's not always clear to others.
Mother's Progress:
Clearer direction after seeing the child’s improvement
Consultant: Temperament-wise?
Mother: Previously, there has always been the worrying of the kids. The fact that sometimes, you don’t how to do things, where do you go from here. But I think nowadays, I feel that okay - there is some sort of clear direction that we know we can take. Things are being clearer now.
Consultant: After you have seen improvement especially?
Mother: Yes.
More in control, brain clarity, better memory
Consultant: More in control of yourself? As in emotionally or mentally?
Mother: Previously, there were more outbreaks. Sometimes, you feel frustrated. You tend to take it out on the kids, when they make you angry. So now it’s like for me, I tend to rein in a bit more. I say no point shouting at them. It affects them. It affects me. So it’s ok - just take it easy.
Consultant: Your brain clarity now is better?
Mother: Yes.
Consultant: Are you able to more focus on your daily tasks?
Mother: Yes, my memory is much better now. There are things that I do forget. But I think it is more clearer. If I do forget something, I am able to (ask) “what was I thinking about a while back”. Then I try to think hard, and then I remember. A few months back, it was like if I forget - like I will be thinking about something, then you tend to forget - it tends to happen right? Then you can never recall it back. It happened to me quite a bit, previously. Now, it is very less. I don’t have that issue now.
Consultant: That is great. That will become even better if you can do more clearing - the detox. Because this will help our neurotransmitters to be transported much easily. Then you don’t have that brain fog. A lot of these parents experience clarity of the mind after the sleep improves. Of course, it also comes along with their children’s improvement.
No more constipation, better bowel movement
Consultant: Constipation, in the past you used to have?
Mother: Yes, but now, it is more normal. Everyday, I am able to have normal bowel (movement).
Able to sleep better, still feeling tired
Consultant: You slept next to your girl?
Mother: Yes, I have always been sleeping next to my girl.
Consultant: How do you feel after using it?
Mother: I mean sleep-wise, it is actually the same. I wake up at the same time everyday, go to sleep at the same time every night.
Consultant: Are you able to sleep better or worse now?
Mother: Because Jennifer does not wake me up at night, of course I sleep through the night. I don’t wake up unless I am supposed to wake up. But I would say, of course my tiredness, my fatigue - it is still there. Night-time is there, morning is there. It is a never-ending cycle. I can’t get out of it.
Consultant: I would suggest you do (koo energy) Sandwich. If your children have gone to school, try to do a 30mins or 1 hour Sandwich. It can make a world of difference. Because you are still trying to do a detox, as far as your weight management issue is concerned. It needs that extra energy to push it out. You want to see more detox reactions. The more you flush out, the more well-off you can be in terms of your energy level.
Weight gain, water retention, more thirsty
Consultant: Dietary habits-wise - any change?
Mother: No, it’s pretty much the same stuff. But I have actually put on weight over the past few months. Probably because of the Circuit Breaker. Everyone is eating all the time at home.
Consultant: There is some water retention that you experienced?
Mother: Yes, I do feel bloated. I attribute that to water retention. I feel thirsty most of the time, even when I am at home. So I have to constantly drink water. I sort of like feel bloated. My tummy feels bloated, even if I don’t eat very full. I think the water is not draining out as much as it should.
Consultant: I would strongly recommend you to switch to distilled water. If you are finding that hydration issue, then all the more this clean water is going to help you. If the quality of the water is not there, the more water you drink, the more workload you are giving your liver. On the other hand, if you switch to distilled water, it acts as a solvent to flush out these toxins and fat. Most of the time the diet that will cause the blood to be thicker as the day heightens. If you can switch to distilled water, throughout the day you are doing cleaning. Add a little lime or lemon.
Mother: Okay, I should try.
Detox reactions with drier skin & dehydrated
Consultant: You also experienced detox reactions?
Mother: I started having dry skin. I previously had dry skin, but I think it is a bit more. I feel that my skin is really very dry. I think it is the fact that I am dehydrated. I don’t normally use lotion on myself. Very rarely I use. So I just feel it is due to the fact that I feel dehydrated. There is not enough water in my body.
Consultant: Change to distilled water, and you will see much improvement.
Mother: Yes, probably there will be a difference.
Detox reactions with indigestIon & heartburn
Consultant: You had no indigestion (previously)? So this is the bloated feeling you experiencing?
Mother: Yes, correct. I didn’t have indigestion previously. Now, it is more of like after you eat, like every meal, you tend to have that heartburn, that indigestion.
Consultant: This is where I told you about the fat that comes in with the glucose. Change of diet will alleviate the condition.
Wakes up feeling happier than before
Consultant: Once the Sleep Therapy kicks in, was there any difference in terms of her Sleep Quality?

But I would say, of course my tiredness, my fatigue - it is still there. Night-time is there, morning is there. It is a never-ending cycle. I can’t get out of it.
Consultant: I would suggest you do (koo energy) Sandwich. If your children have gone to school, try to do a 30mins or 1 hour Sandwich. It can make a world of difference. Because you are still trying to do a detox, as far as your weight management issue is concerned. It needs that extra energy to push it out. You want to see more detox reactions.
